Flying on miles, and the dreaded “waitlist”

Snagging an award ticket on an international carrier can be rough- many carriers open very few award seats in the better classes such as Business or First, and they disappear quickly as early as 3 months to even a year before the flight takes place.

Things can get even more nerve-wracking when you have a big chunk of miles that’s about to expire, and even worse when your only window for you and your fiancée to travel is when the kid is going on a trip with her grandparents for a week. What could get worse than that?
